Overkill was written by Colin Hay for Men at Work's 1983 album “Cargo,” and it reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Our version appears on “Audio Dropouts, Vol. 1” which was released on September 15, 2023. Our commentary on the ZFB version follows:
Steve: “Well, this one is my solo piece. From time to time, I sneak a solo recording in as a surprise, and since I'm the chief mixer and engineer, the other guys don't seem to mind (or maybe they do and just don't complain!). I've liked this song since I heard it back in the 1980's, and I think I did a primitive 4-track cassette recording of it way back in the day, although if I did, the results have been lost.”
Rich: “A fantastic solo surprise by Steve of a sublime Men at Work tune. He was the singer, instrumentalist, engineer and producer for it, and I'm sure he had time to make a vegemite sandwich during it, too! Pete and I watched Impractical Jokers and sampled a few IPA's while Steve hunkered down recording this one.”
Pete: “I don't even know why Steve keeps us around when he can do something like this? This little gem from down under adds a great segue-way into the mix.”
Steve: Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Drum Programming
